Message from the Director:
Welcome to another exciting year of Orchestra at Lawrence High School!
I hope that you have enjoyed your summer! I had the opportunity this summer to teach low strings at the KU Midwestern Music Camp as well as help out with the LPS Novice program. In addition to teaching summer camps and private lessons, I did enjoy a lot of time with my family and watching my son grow and learn. I know many of our LHS students were involved in summer music camps, have been taking private lessons, and have been involved in smaller summer ensembles. Way to go LHS orchestra students!
There will be a change to our typical concert schedule this year. Instead of a February or early March concert, we will be having a small ensemble showcase with all students getting the opportunity to perform in a small ensemble setting. In addition to this, we have planned two combined concerts with area orchestras. The first being a combined concert with the KU Orchestra and the second being a combined concert with Free State Orchestra. Please keep an eye out for information on these two community building concerts!
Finally, the success of this orchestra goes far beyond what I am able to do as a teacher. It requires teamwork and participation from not only students, but from you as parents. I love this community and value the relationships and camaraderie that has been built. I look forward to continuing to build and grow this amazing orchestra program.
